"When I met the ideas of Jan Scholten for the first time in December 1992, I was surprised: enormous possibilities offered themselves. Now, some months later, having had experiences with these 'new' remedies, I can speak of a fundamental revolution in homeopathic thinking. The method Jan is offering in his book, seems too beautiful to be true, but it works! It is not easy to explain his method briefly, but I shall try to do so with an example from his college in February 1993.
A woman of 30 comes with a variety of complaints, such as allergy to the sun, pain in the right forehead, sciatica right, intestinal troubles, swollen and painful breasts before menses, and fatigue.
Mind: she needs attention, and compliments. 'I didn't dare to ask for attention and got irritated when my husband didn't say anything of my work. My mother had too little time for us and I was the one who managed. I was a big girl'.
The theme of 'attention' is found in the Muriaticums, and the 'timidity' and 'insecurity' in the Calciums. The remedy: Calcium muriaticum ('desire for attention, but not daring to ask for it'). The woman got cured after the remedy.
By analyzing different minerals (Calcarea, Natrum, Phosphorus, Sulphur, Baryta etc.) and metals Jan has developed some key concepts for every element. In practice it is possible to make many combinations of these concepts and so find the remedy that fits the patient.
Try to imagine what it means once we have found the key concepts of every element of the periodic system .... Maybe that is what Kent felt when he said that all remedies could be found in one kingdom (mineral, plant or animal). ...This book gives us the start. We practicing homeopaths now have the job of verifying and expanding this information. A huge task and a fantastic challenge."

In recent years the bird remedies have swooped down, conquering homeopathic practice. They are remedies for our times and are indicated in people who, like the Lanthanides, are seeking freedom and self-realisation yet at the same time have a strong sense of duty towards their family. They tend to sacrifice themselves to this task, consequently feeling too restricted by their duties. Physically this is most often expressed in stubborn states of tension in the neck, shoulder and chest, together with an inner feeling of tenseness and restlessness. After a comprehensive introduction to the general characteristics by which bird patients can be identified, the author presents a series of impressive case histories, some with severe pathology. The picture of a remedy group only really becomes clear when we compare it with similar groups. Differential diagnosis is the real art of homeopathy, and here we can witness the masterly art of nuanced differentiation. After the elucidation of the themes of the Acids, they are compared with other families. The genius of the Acids thus appears so clearly in our mind's eye that we will certainly be able to later recognize it in our practice.

Excerpt from Introduction: For more than thirty years I have been practicing homoeopathy and lecturing on the subject. Recently I have felt I should put down my thoughts in book form and thus have a chance to share my experience with others, who then could also profit from the homeopathic healing method.
I was trained in allopathic medicine in India, at the prestigious Madras Medical College and graduated in 1966. Then I went to England and was trained in homeopathy, under the particular tutelage of Dr. Margery G. Blackie, at the Royal London Homoeopathic Hospital, and got my M.F.Hom. in 1968. Since then I have been teaching and conducting postgraduate courses in India, East Asia, Western Europe, and North America, and have been offering consultations to patients all over the world.
What lead me to focus on cancer was a series of failures in cancer cases in my earlier days, particularly the loss of my sister in 1974 and my elder brother in 1984, both of whom were homeopathic doctors. From that time on I have been trying out different combinations, potencies, and dosages of remedies in the treatment of this disease.
Beginning in the late 1980s, I began to observe favorable responses and over the next few years embarked on and experimented with a new technique of prescribing. This methodology, which I have named my “Plussing Method”, stabilized around 1993. The good results of the seven years or so of  working very intensely with this method, especially in comparison with my work in cancer of the previous years, gave me a sense of happiness and enthusiasm that prompted me to write a book.

A pioneering new book on homeopathy for plant diseases. Vaikunthanath Das Kaviraj, an experienced homeopath, stumbled by accident upon the homeopathic treatment of plants when he was asked to treat a rust problem in apple trees.
