Matridonal Remedies of the Humanum Family: Gifts of the Mother – Melissa Assilem

If you are looking for textbook style homeopathic writing, this book is not for you. This is a lovely allegorical read, which results in you learning a great deal about a very powerful group of remedies, about being a woman, about being a human. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I used it almost immediately after reading it in book club some years ago.

Melissa Assilem writes for Idolatry Inc, and has several books. She is a Homeopath with a focus on women’s health. In this book she blends biology, mythology and spirituality in her discussion of the remedies made from the different aspects of human reproduction.

Her descriptions of the remedies are derived from her own practice and from provings, or “proofings” which she prefers to call them. Her writing style is casual, and you get lovely interjections of poems, cases, art and stories throughout the book. Her writing style is eclectic, with each remedy being explored in a different way. Freida/Freddy Fetus, and illustration, pops in at the beginning of each chapter to illustrate the essence of each remedy.

She also gives a beautiful description of what she calls “The 9 R’s – The Gifts of Homeopathy”, which is a must read both to understand the actions of homeopathic remedies themselves, but also to see the impact that we as Homeopaths have on our patient’s lives.
