Book Review: Using Realms in Homeopathy – Peter Fraser

Peter Fraser is known for his little books packed with information. He has a wide selection of both materia medicas, a series called “Transformation Between the Realms” (list below) and case analysis books, a series he calls “Using Maps and Systems in Homœopathy”. I got this book as part of a silent auction book package that I won. It isn’t something I likely would have picked up right from the shelf. I read it on the subway for something to do while commuting. I was very glad I did.

I had purchased all of his materia medicas as a student, because they were cheap and packed full of useful information on specific remedies. If you had narrowed down the remedy family to be a spider, snake, insect or bird, then his books would allow you to determine exactly which remedy in these groups you were looking for. And for many of these, it contained mental pictures for remedies that you could just not find elsewhere. They were essential for me in my student clinic and continue to be now in my practice. I am anxiously awaiting his drug remedy book he mentioned while here for a seminar a few years ago.

The neat thing about his series of materia medicas is that although they can be read on their own and understood, he also often references the concepts in “Using Realms in Homeopathy” in his materia medica books. So there is definite value added for picking up this book to accompany your Peter Fraser materia medica collection. He dedicates a whole chapter in each of his materia medicas to discussing the group and how they specifically fit into his realms system. See the titles of his materia medicas below to get an idea about how realms interact with his descriptions of the remedy families.
