Alternative Interventions in Oral Health

oral healthFirst off, the best strategy for your mouth's overall health is to brush and floss your teeth regularly. Nothing beats the preventative action of regular oral hygiene. Use an electric toothbrush, they simply do a better job at cleaning teeth and gums than a manual one. That being said some of us still face problems with our mouths.

The tissue salt Calcarea Fluorata helps with the development of strong teeth and bones. It is particularly good to give to children who are developing their permanent teeth but it is useful to take periodically throughout ones life to ensure strong teeth and bones. Calcarea Fluorata taken in conjunction with Calcarea Sulphurica and Silica (as in the Rekeweg formula BC18) helps with infection, inflammation and dental diseases.

Tartar build up is a common problem. Usually it’s a trip to the dentist for regular cleanings to help prevent this. The remedy Fragaria Vesca helps with the build up and the removal of tartar.

Tartar build up can contribute to a really horrible condition called gingivitis. Horrible scraping and cleanings are the usual course of treatment. However if you use oil of oregano while you floss you can greatly decrease the severity of the bacterial build up and decrease the gingivitis. Place drops of oregano oil onto your floss before flossing. It will taste awful but it works.

If you have decay and or a cavity and can’t get to the dentist quickly there are a lot of strategies that you can use to cope with pain and decay. For pain applying oil of clove to the tooth and surrounding gums helps numb the region. If you would like to arrest the decay take the remedy Kreosotum; this will arrest decay but do be careful because it will turn the tooth brown. Try the supplement BC18 mentioned earlier.

If you have shooting nerve pain the remedy Hypericum reduces the intensity of pain experienced. Hypericum can also be used if you don’t want to have local anaesthetic, however if the cavity involves the root of the tooth you may want the local antistatic regardless.

Always consult your homeopath on how to take any of the remedies mentioned here.

Some people have problems with the TMJ joint. Moderate to severe pain can be experienced as well as difficulty with opening the mouth wide and clicking in the jaw. The Bowen technique has specific adjustments for the TMJ which directly address these problems painlessly and without surgical intervention.
